This captivating fantasy love story by award-winning Russian author is based around an eighteen-year-old sorceress Layne Vayris, who has her fair share of adventure, romance and magical times.
Layne Vayris has lost the two most dearest people to her. Her mentor and her Uncle Niklas. Each have tasked her with delivering their last requests. Layne's mentor requires three letters to be delivered on specific dates and specific times. Whereas her Uncle Niklas has asked that she deliver an unusual book of his, to an unworthy previous student called Goter.
To complete their dying wishes she must leave her peaceful and tranquil village of Wolverdell to enter a bustling city of magic and depravity.
There she meets a young homeless boy called Remi, who guides her through the city. Their friendship spurs her on to find the first addressee of the three letters, a Master Sharrez. But Master Sharrez is aloof and spends his time in whore houses, making an audience with him near on impossible.
Layne realizes that the only way to fulfill her promise to her dead mentor is to join the Academy of Magic, where the warlock Sharrez teaches the Faculty of Dark Magic. Except this decision comes with its own demons and Layne finds herself setting off on a path she never envisaged. A path that leads her to discover her own dormant magic, which becomes all consuming and more powerful than anyone has ever seen before.
But with power comes enemies. And in trying to deliver her second letter, she finds that not all 'old' friends are friends, and things take a turn for the worst. Layne finds herself having to fight for her life with some unlikely friends to boot.
Will Layne be able to deliver the third letter in time? Will she pass on her Uncle's book to the unworthy Goter? Or will the power of magic end her before she's even begun?

While there few surprises in the story arc - this is the first of a series - thee are plenty of twists and turns in the book plot, aided by some skilful writing that presents some of the story events as memory. The perils of being a beautiful young and magically powerful single woman are illustrated by the number of men that declare their interest forcefully and otherwise. Our heroine takes it all in her stride as her heritage becomes clearer and her destiny more compelling. A good read.Product details

I chose a five star rating because it had everything you could ask for in a book. I love the way the characters are described as if you are there and seeing them. It is filled with magic and mayhem and so far a little romance which will continue in the next book in the series. Looking forward to it.

The only reason I didn't give this give stars was because I sometimes had a hard time following it.
But not to worry because I didn't stay confused for long.
I will be checking out the next book
Could not put this book down! It is fast paced, has action, romance, magic and fantasy all rolled into one spell binding great read. Love the heroine, but then I love most of the characters I met along the way. You need a few bad apples for fun, right!?! I recommend this to lovers of fantasy and paranormal of all ages.
She was sent by her mentor to deliver letters at the city having no idea what would happen once she got there, but in the process began to learn who her true identity was, plus skills were tested during a fight against robbers in the woods and later to help protect the city. Face paced action, enjoyed the tale.
A believable world , with an intriguing, cohesive system of magic.
Good character development with an appealing protagonist, and a likeable and engaging cast of characters.
The plot is familiar, but has enoough twists and turns
to keep your interest.
I enjoyed this story.l, and look forward to the next one in this series.
There may be an overabundance of exclamation marks, and a few words seem to be used in place of their more appropriate antonym, and there is the very slightest initial impression of a similarity to Game of Thrones (5 provinces, and, to the south, nomadic tribes that command wild horses - but the similarity ends there), but all in all, a really good story.
The characters are well developed, with a plot that makes sense - there is nothing suddenly thrown in seemingly without purpose. Our Heroine is completely unassuming, and even our Dark Wizard is loveable in his rakishness.
I am looking forward to reading the next in the series.
WOW....Quite the exciting book. I gave it 5-stars because it was an “I can’t stop reading” type of script that had to be read right now. Layne Vayris was an impressive leading lady who will win your heart & soul immediately. She is indeed magically inclined & becomes involved in so many adventures that the reader will never be bored. I hope you will pick this story to read asap. I, myself, am most anxious to read the next book. I was able to read this book free in a giveaway.
